“The Dells” at Sunset, Prescott, Arizona

The neat thing about HDR, is capturing a moment as your percieved it, just as you remember it. This photo of a setting sun over “The Dells” at Watson Lake, pretty much takes me there, as I saw it, when I was there. Pictures that are not HDR, do not always do that for me. Everyones different in that regard, but after it’s all said and done, there will never be anything quite like actually being there. For a photographer or tourist, Watson Lake in Prescott, Arizona, is worth the visit.

Sunset Boulders at “The Dells”, Prescott, Arizona

Daily Photo:

“The Dells” at Watson Lake in Prescott are quite unique rock formations. As sunset approaches, the granite boulders light up with soft glows of orange, yellow and red. I’d like to catch these formations sometime with billowing  gray clouds in the distance for the HDR effect.  It’s always been perfectly blue skies when I have been there.

Sunrise at Watson Lake, Prescott, Arizona

Daily Photo:

One of my favorite spots to photograph in Arizona is the “The Dells”, Prescott, Arizona. The boulders are flung around  everywhere making some interesting fun photography. This sunrise shot was one of my 1st, before I started climbing and jumping around different boulders looking for better and better vantage points. I remember taking a leap between a rather deep crevasse and slammed my brand new Canon 16-35mm into the granite wall. It bounced back and slammed me in the nose giving me quite a jolt. The lens managed to stay in one piece, though the sky light filter got bent up pretty good. Saved by a cheap filter. That’s the way to do it!

“The Flintstones ” lived here! Watson Lake, Prescott, Arizona

Daily Photo:

Well..maybe not, but everytime I see these rock formations, they remind me of the “Flintstones”. “The Dells”, as this place is known,  have these rocks sprewed everywhere on Watson Lake in Prescott, Arizona.  My daughter was on a date on the lake and told me it would be a great place for HDR photography. So I just had to make a special trip to see them for myself. I took photos at sunset and then again at sunrise. I remember having to sneak in that next morning because the park was closed. Sometimes you do what you have to do to get the shot.

“The Dells”-Watson Lake, Prescott, Arizona

A peculiar kind of place. Looks like somewhere you would expect to see “The Flintstones”. Granite boulders just piled up everywhere. It’s a blast just hiking and climbing and jumping around them, though my new wide angle Canon 16-35mm lens took a hit when I did a body ram into a wall on one of my crazy jumps. Good thing they’re built tough, because it hit pretty hard. This was an after dusk shot when shadows were faded and winds had calmed down. Done with 3 exposures using Photomatix, Photoshopcs5 and Topaz Adjust. Any questions on my photography leave a comment. See all my photos in the “Gallery” above.
