Lake Tahoe Sunset

The race was on to try and find a vantage point to catch a sunset over Lake Tahoe. We figured we would have to reach the eastern side of the lake. Next challenge was finding a spot you could hike down to that had boulders in the forefront. We got there a few hours ahead and explored the coastline ’til we found the perfect spot and then put our “dubbs” on it. It’s common to find a spot and then return only to find other photographers set up on your chosen spot. So you learn, when you find it, you gotta hold on to it.

St Mary’s Lake at Glacier National Park

This is one of the most popular spots to stop and take a picture of St Mary’s Lake. Cars would stop,  someone would jump out, take a quick picture, and off they went. I knew the sunset was going to be special, so I hung out, marked my spot, and waited for the perfect moment. Knowing the rule of sunsets; when the sun cast it’s orange, yellow and red hues, it’s not over, yet that’s when most photographers pack it in. I like to wait for the possible second round of color, the more soft, purple pastels. They don’t always come, but when they do, it’s magic.

Shipwrecked in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Well not really. Tonight in Cabo we went on the Pirate ship “Buccaneer” and whale watched and sailed over to El Arco. Weather was about as perfect as it gets.

Anyone out there own a Canon 5D? Last night sailing out to El Arco at sunset my camera got weird, malfunctioned and shut down. Opened it up and the mirror fell out the camera. The glue that held the mirror to the camera housing must have loosened up because of the moist, humid air in Cabo.  To say the least, I felt like I was out of business. I went online and found I wasn’t the only person having this problem. Good thing I had a smaller back-up camera, so I could at least get some shots. This one was taken tonight off the front of the Pirate ship, towards the El Arco, to the west. Perfect time in Cabo for whale watching. They were everywhere.

Grand Canyon Sunset overlooking Colorado River

I imagine many Indians long ago squatted in this same spot, mesmerized by the grandeur of it all, gazing into this mother of canyons at sunset. It will take your breath away, hugging the vertical cliffs. With the wind whipping, you try to hold your ground..or else! Not a pleasant thought falling, but I’m sure it’s happened. For me, I just stare into the sunset, with no care in the world. I came here to absorb this ancient place and take a few photographs. Mission accomplished.

Irish Sunset over Seaweed Bed

It was tricky wandering off in the evening into this rocky seaweed bed. Tide had just gone out and everything was slimey and slippery. But crazy me, I had to find a better spot, so I went out into this wet wonderland, trying to catch the sunset with reflections from the tide pools. As it got darker, trekking back with deep cervasses everywhere, kinda gave me the heebie-jeebie’s. If I fell into one of them, goodbye Charlie. No one was around to hear me. It gave me the spooks, so I got the heck out of there, but not before getting off a shot of a beautiful Irish sunset.

Sunset On Crescent Lake, Washington

Happy New Year!!

Hope you all have a safe New Year’s Eve, and prosperous 2013!

This photo of Crescent Lake felt right, as I watch the sunset over a cold Phoenix, Arizona New Year’s night. Crescent Lake is a beautiful, pristine lake on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington. It’s surrounded by mountains and pine trees. A perfect place to hide in the summer away from the summer heat. This photo reminds me of how much I want to go back someday. I hope your wanderlust turns to traveling the world and becoming another “Travelbugster”! Have a great New Year!

Bass Lake near Oakhurst, California

This lake was a pleasant surprise out of the mountains of Yosemite National Park. After spending 3 days in Yosemite on a photo tour, I found this lake near the town of Oakhurst where I was staying. I spent the day hanging out here, before heading to Fresno for a late trip back to Phoenix. Felt like I had the place to myself. It’s always fun when that happens, especially shooting landscapes.

Glowing Sunset of St. Mary’s Lake, Glacier National Park, Montana

It was at the end of the season for Glacier National Park. After seeing St. Mary’s Lake during the day, I knew I had to come back to hit this spot for a sunset shot. This is one of the more popular spots and the clouds that day gave me a clue that the sunset could be interesting. I wasn’t disappointed, as many fellow photographers lined up for this amazing sunset.

Golden Sunset of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

The changing winds of winter, sometimes makes us long for the golden warm sands of a tropical beach somewhere. I just checked weather.com. It’s going to be 88 degrees and sunny in Puerto Vallarta tomorrow. Pretty much what it was when I took this sunset photo over the Pacific Ocean in Puerto Vallarta. It’s raining this evening in Phoenix. I can’t remember when we last had rain here. It’s been a long time and we are excited. Our 1st winter storm. So with the cooler weather, what better time then now, to put a log on the fire and dream about sunny beaches in some far off southern tropical paradise! “Hasta La Vista..Baby”!!

Sunset over Pacific Coast Highway near Monterey, California

We were down shooting video and stills of Julia Pfeiffer State Park as the sun was setting. As dusk fell we headed north to Monterey, only to be stopped by this after-glow of amazing sunset colors. We just had to pull over and take advantage of the moment. This coastline near Big Sur, California has got to be one of the world’s most scenic drives
