Aspen Grove, Wyoming

Autumn comes early in areas of Wyoming. This is a trip I took mid September and colors of fall were everywhere.

I’m on the central coast of California¬†at the moment avoiding the heat of Phoenix shooting sunsets around Pismo Beach, before possibly heading back east. Weather back there is a bit iffy so will see.

St Mary Falls, Glacier National Park

Daily Photo:

It was getting near sunset and I had my doubts about trekking on a 1 mile hike out to St Mary Falls, alone. This is Wyoming, wild bear country and I have a fear about bears. I’ve run into them face-to-face before, seen them on many trails and I’m not fond of it. I never ventured out this late in the day, but I knew this would be the perfect time to catch a good shot of the falls. An Asian couple was speeding by me and I ask if I could tag along. We made it to the falls in record time. They wanted to snap a quick picture and head back. I convinced them to hang out for a little while so I could get my gear set up and snap a few different perspectives. They lasted for about 5 minutes and I did not want to be left behind, so I packed it in and we headed back. It doesn’t take much to spook yourself when you’re traveling alone. This stop was late in the season and they were closing Glacier National Park for the winter in just a few days. I was on a 6000 mile, two month journey to hit all the National Parks in the Northwest, including some in Canada. I kept moving south and autumn was coming in full bloom. I’ll share some of those another time.

Oxbow Bend-Grand Tetons, Wyoming

Daily Photo:

On any given day, photographers awake early to drive out from the western town of Jackson Hole, to this scenic part of the Grand Tetons National Park called Oxbow Bend. Famous as it were, it’s not uncommon to see an abundance of wildlife as you cruise through this little piece of heaven. By dawns early light photographers line up, zipping up their coats, putting their caps on, searching out their spot to get the next Ansel Adam’s masterpiece. If you’re lucky, the morning will be calm and the water will be a mirror-reflection of the Tetons in the distance. If you’re not, you still end up with a beautiful experience and a beautiful memory.

Grand Teton Wonderland

Daily Photo:

This is an incredibly masculine picture. The majestic Grand Tetons as a backdrop to a statuesque horse in the foreground. Fall had set in on this Wyoming wonderland. I had come down through this area on my 2 month National Parks tour and called my wife and ask her to come meet me in Salt Lake City so I could bring her up to share this breathtaking place. We spent a few days exploring “The Tetons” and spending time in Jackson Hole. Chasing horses around the grassy fields was just part of it.
