Irish Sunset over Seaweed Bed

It was tricky wandering off in the evening into this rocky seaweed bed. Tide had just gone out and everything was slimey and slippery. But crazy me, I had to find a better spot, so I went out into this wet wonderland, trying to catch the sunset with reflections from the tide pools. As it got darker, trekking back with deep cervasses everywhere, kinda gave me the heebie-jeebie’s. If I fell into one of them, goodbye Charlie. No one was around to hear me. It gave me the spooks, so I got the heck out of there, but not before getting off a shot of a beautiful Irish sunset.

Some Town, Somewhere in Ireland

Daily Photo:

These our times when I wish I had a GPS, or something to tell me where I’m at. We had spent the day tirelessly traveling south from Shannon, Ireland to wherever we might end up for the night. We pulled into this picturesque town, got a room and I went out to photograph while it was raining. What could be better then strolling the streets of some Irish town, with no direction in mind, and in the end, not even know what town it is. If you happen to recognize this place, let me know where you think it is. It was a beautiful town!

Sea Weed Garden in Ireland

Daily Photo:

The tide had just gone out and I was sloshing through the sea weed covered jagged rocks, slipping and sliding, looking for the best spot to catch my 1st Ireland sunset. It was a challenge getting out to a good spot knowing what I had to do to get there, but it was an entirely different challenge trying to figure out how to navigate my way back out, once it got dark. The whole area was riddled with crevasses that went deep and if you fell into one, there was no one around to help you get out, and of course the returning tide would have the last word. It was scary to say the least. But, I got some dramatic sunsets that Ireland is famous for! I guess that made it worth it!

Irelands B&B’s

Daily Photo:

While traveling in Ireland in early September, we found many B&B”s were at the end of their season. It’s a great time to go for prices and alot of the time you’re the only one in the place. I love to photograph B&B’s with their ambient light. It brings a nice warm soft hue to the room. In the evening everyone settles in, so I go  lurking through the halls and open rooms with camera and tripod in hand, and start snapping. The antique furnishings alot of times, is like going through a museum. Most of them are older and when the walls start talking back at you, you get the heebies and go back to your room and lock the door. By morning, the smell of bacon and eggs and pastries wakes you to fine breakfast before heading out for another fun day on the suicidal backroads of Ireland.

Row Boats at Ross Castle, Killarney, Ireland

Daily Photo:

I thought this was a colorful display of boats on the grounds at Ross castle. It was being the normal Ireland and raining, so photographing with an umbrella over your head was a necessity. I think the thing that grabs you in Ireland is how vibrant the greens are.  Makes me want to go back! If it wasn’t for the stress of driving on the opposite side of the road, just maybe.

Lough Leane Lake, Ireland

Daily Photo:

Ross Castle-Killarney Ireland sits on Lough Leane lake. “Lake of learning” as it is known has an eerie feel when clouded over as it was the day we were there. This pair of geese seem to like it just fine.

O’briens Tower at Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

There was a time when they would allow you out on the edge of the cliffs, where you could lie down and look staight over the edge to the jagged rocks below, until people started falling off! Now you keep a safe distance and feel the awesomeness of this Irish landmark. Looking west you know somewhere out there is the good old U.S.A. and that’s comforting. This is Ireland most visited attraction and for good reason. It’s magical.

Irish Red Sunset

Daily:

I waited patiently for the tide to roll out so I could climb down to all these piles of sea weed and get a closer shot. What I didn’t expect was how slippery the stuff was going to be. I was far from anyone hearing the sound of my voice, let alone finding me should I trip and fall on some of these jagged rocks. I treaded softly through the muck and waited for the sunset to come to me. I got what I came for and then treaded back through the sloshing water in the dark to the safety of my car.

Red Irish Sunset, Ireland

Daily:

This seaside sunset could be anywhere. This one took a little bit of a challenge to get back from. Crevasses were everywhere, some quite wide and deep, to jump over. I figured, after dark without a flash light, I was going to have a problem, and I did. Fall into one of the deep cracks and you’re a goner.  Needless to say I took it slow and very sure-footed. I don’t know why, as photographers, we’ll  take so many chances.

This photo was taken directly west of a small town called Doolin, just north of the “Cliffs of Moher”. A red graduated neutral-density filter was used.

Dingle Peninsula, Ireland

Daily Photo:

As we followed the coastline of Dingle Peninsula, the sun was setting creating an array of beautiful hues of golds and greens and blues. The sheep pastures outstretched all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. I can still feel the chilly wind on my face along this beautiful grassy stretch of Ireland in the fall. See this photo enlarged in the “Gallery” to truly appreciate how beautiful this area truly is.
