Time Worn Stairs of Dubrovnik, Croatia

Daily Photo:

Old town Dubrovnik has thousands of stairs with everyone upstaging the other with fancy entryways and flowered pots. This was an arduous climb, going up and down each corridor looking for the most photogenic doors and stairways. But I was determined to find them all one by one. I usually come back from these photo excursions, losing weight. I guess there’s easier ways to do it, just not as much fun. Dubrovnik is one of those places you wish you had a week, just to try all the different fancy outdoor restaurants that line the cobblestone breezeways.

Home Sweet Home in Dubrovnik

I was intrigued by the entryways in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It seemed the stature of your door represented your wealth in life. Maybe or maybe not, it was fun to go up and down the stairways looking for an interesting door to photograph. I think the crazy thing about being a photographer is you’re always looking for something interesting to photograph. I think if you were¬†locked in a room, you would be trying to find interest in photographing a keyhole or the grain in the wood on the floor. A camera was designed to take pictures and that would be exactly what you would¬†be doing.

“The Walled City”-Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik has a long history of war, earthquakes, fires, and at one time rivaled Venice as a seaport. The walls run 2 km around the city and at some points are as thick as 6 meters. It was nice in the heat of the day to walk the dark and narrow passageways. Many of the homes were only accessible by climbing steep stairs. That grew old real quick as I searched for interesting doorways to photograph. This photo is the farthest point north of the city catching the edge of the wall, looking out to the Adriatic sea. This is a place you just want to meld into the hisory and spend time absorbing the city and beyond. Restaurants are everywhere and you just want to try everything. This a place you don’t want to breeze through. Come and spend time. For those following “Bachelorette” on T.V., this is their next stop, next week!

Doors of Pride-Dubrovnik, Croatia

In Dubrovnik,Croatia, the many stairs within the old city walls lead to fancy doors. The centurys-old homes outlived the well-kept doors showing pride of ownership. As steep as the corridors of stairs were, I would walk up and down each one searching for the fanciest ones. Quite winded most of the time, I knew the entryways would make great HDR photos. Hope you agree.

Ragusa-Dubrovnic, Croatia

Daily Photo:

The name of the city was officially changed from Ragusa to Dubrovnic in 1921. When I was there back in the 70’s it was known as Yugoslavia, which has since divided and today Dubrovnic is now a city in Croatia, located on the Adriatic Sea. Hope that all makes sense. The city is protected by a couple miles of walls which we climbed around looking for “photo ops”. I did alot of climbing of stairs in Dubrovnic. Along the dark and musty corridors of steep passageways, many of the homes had flowers and plants accenting huge fancy doors. It seems if you have a nice door you must be important or affluent. Just a guess. This little restaurant appeared on one of the many corridors I strolled, and sums up the typical, very old but well-kept city that is..Dubrovnic.
