This is my 2nd trip to Blackwater Falls. I came a few years ago in the autumn but got down to the falls a bit to late in the evening to capture the light, so I vowed to come back. I have visited many falls across the United States but something magical catches you here in Tucker County in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virgina. Maybe it’s just a special feeling of growing up in the hills in southern Pennsylvania not far from here. Or maybe, it’s the fact that this waterfalls is just downright “perty”! “Country road, take me home, to a place, I belong, West Virginia..” John Denver must have felt it too. The off-color hues come from tannic acid which in part is how it got it’s name. The mist spraying on you, the shear power you feel from the roar, something worth the hike down to see this wonderful most photographed spot in all of West Virgina.
