Colors of The Rainbow-Burano, Italy

Daily Photo:

How would you like to live on an island where every home has to be a different color? Just a short boat ride from Venice is a quaint little community called Burano. Pastel colors line the row homes, canals and bridges. Open-air restaurants and shopping around every corner. Artist and photographers capturing the moment and locking it in time. Little rowboats and fishing boats line the canals. If you visit Venice, do not miss an opportunity to spend an afternoon on this “colors of the rainbow” island.

“Deco Liner” at Barrett Jackson Car Auction

Daily Photo:

Something you don’t see everyday. Looked like a retro through back to the 50’s. A rare look at the interior. Great place for having some friends over and enjoy refreshments and some crackers and cheese. Saw this contraption at the Barrett Jackson Car Auction in Phoenix, Arizona. Fun times!

Krka Falls-Croatia

Daily Post:

Imagine a place so wonderful it’s like paradise where you can crawl under a waterfalls and the torquoise hues dance in the sunlight putting you in a hypnotic state of mind. Krka Falls about an hour out of Split, Croatia is such a place. The cascading falls seem endless as it goes downward for a mile as you walk gingerly along it’s banks where you are able to walk right up to the edge and run your fingers through the grasses that are growing right up out of the water. Pretty spectacular and one of the most beautiful falls in the world. At the bottom of the falls you can swim to your hearts content and find your own piece of paradise under the trees in a blue lagoon. See “gallery” above for all my photos

Mesa Arch Sunrise

Daily Photo:

It’s 5 A.M., a time I rarely wish to see, but this morning was special. I arrived the day before to scope out this famous photographer’s spot in Canyonlands National Park in Utah called, “Mesa Arch”. I’d heard you had to get there before dawn to lock down a spot to have the prize shot of the day. It’s a 45 minute drive from Moab, Utah. The day before I hiked down to get my bearings, knowing I had to find it in the dark. Other photographers had mentioned you can get off the trail and get lost. Well I arrived around 6 A.M. and it was indeed pitch black. And indeed I got off the trail and got lost. I come up on a ridge of the canyon that suddenly went dark into the abyss. I knew I had to figure this out quickly or I’d lose out getting a good spot. So I stopped panicking, stopped breathing and started listening for voices in the distance. I heard someone and started heading for the sound of their voice and found my way. Within 20 minutes another 20 photographers showed up. I had the coveted spot and held my ground and this was the result of 5 photos taken at different exposures and merged together using Photomatix, processed in Photoshop and Topaz. Please see my gallery for all my photos.

Elvis Presley Memorial Chapel

Daily Photo:

This chapel is part of the Superstion Lost Dutchman Museum in Apache Junction Arizona. I was riding up past this little chapel one evening, and saw a wedding going on. So I thought I would stop and see if they needed a photographer for the festivities. They had it covered, so I blended in. As soon as everyone was out and away from the chapel, I  snapped a few quick photos and moved out of the way. I guess I was being a little intrusive, but the clouds were simply amazing and in Arizona who knows when you get another opportunity like this. I took three photos and merged into an HDR image. Very dramatic results and I didn’t even get thrown out for being a “wedding crasher”. Elvis was probably turning in his grave.

Grand Canyon Pastel Beauty

Daily Photo:  Check My Gallery for all posted photos!

As the Colorado River snakes through the Grand Canyon, I wait patiently for just the right moment to snap a shot of the fading light of dusk. This photo was taken a bit after sunset with the light of day nearly gone. I wanted a soft pastel glow to fall over the canyon, so I could use longer exposures, to create this effect. I took 3 exposures and processed this HDR photo.

Update: As I now leave the Canyonlands and Arches of Utah, stay tuned for photos of this incredible wonderland.

Sunset On The Colorado

The weekend has been spent in the Canyonlands and Arches National Park in Utah. So many amazing wonders. Some of the cleanest air you’ll find anywhere. The Colorado River snakes it’s way through the parks and the vistas are loaded with photo “ops”. Sometimes the wind suddenly whips up over the edge of the canyons and about knocks you over.  I hold constant vigilance over the tripod and camera to keep from losing them over the edge of the vertical cliffs. It’s not a comfortable place be sometimes, but as they say, “somebody has to do it”.

All Along The Watch Tower

Daily Photo:

A great vista point at the Grand Canyon exemplifies the shear magnitude of the canyon from atop the watch tower. The Colorado River in the distance still ever busy digging deeper into the canyon floor.

Better Days a Truckin’

Daily Photo:

In Apache Junction, Arizona you will find Goldfields Ghost Town on your route to Canyon Lake. It’s an old western-style town and  tourist stop with a gold mine, shops, steak house, church and maybe even a gun fight in the streets. There’s alot of old rusted vehicles and old machinery laying around that do well with HDR photography. So, one of those rare days in Phoenix where we had an overcast day, I took advantage of the dramatic clouds and headed out for evening of shooting.

Aspen Grove-Colorado National Park

Daily Photo:

Going west out of Estes Park you run into Colorado National Park. There are so many photo “ops”, it seemed like we were stopping all the time. Our goal was to reach Winter Park by sun down, but not before we trodded through grassy Aspen groves, climbed up to rocky waterfalls, enjoyed herds of elk, wandered aimlessly through bog fields, and breathed the thin wind struck air at the 10,000 foot summit over Milner Pass. Aspen trees with their distinctive white bark created a pleasant contrast to the pine tree forest that dominated the scenery.
